When crafting your Flores adventure, make sure to pencil in Riung as a must-stop between Bajawa and Moni (home to the mystical Kelimutu Lakes). Nestled tranquilly amidst nature’s embrace, Riung remains a serene haven yet untouched by the woes of over-tourism. Picture-perfect scenes await as palm trees sway gracefully along verdant fields, guiding you to Riung’s humble pier – the gateway to the breathtaking 17 Islands Marine Park. Despite its name, this marine marvel boasts 24 exquisite islands, most uninhabited save for occasional fishermen’s camps, vibrant avian colonies, and the enchanting presence of flying foxes.

Encounter Timor deer, playful monkeys, and even the diminutive yet captivating Mbou, a distant relative of the famed Komodo dragon.
For those seeking a touch of adventure, ascend to the peaks of these islands for panoramic vistas that will leave you spellbound. Alternatively, embrace the tranquility of a shoreline stroll during low tide, where a kaleidoscope of marine life awaits your discovery – from graceful starfish to intricate sea urchins and delicate sand dollars.
Nestled amidst rustic charm and teeming with marine wonders, Riung stands as a beacon of natural beauty in Flores. Embark on a 4-hour journey from either Bajawa or Ende to uncover this hidden gem, where every moment promises serenity and awe-inspiring encounters with nature’s bounty.
